At Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge on Florida’s east coast, it’s a record year for green sea turtles. Scientists have so far counted 13,916 nests this season. In 2001, there were only 198 nests on this 20-mile stretch of protected beach. Protections put in place decades ago under the Endangered Species Act have helped to turn the tide for these turtles.
